As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.
Technology has changed our lives by great extent within the span of 100 years. It's improving our way of living by providing various solutions of our problems and bring up new challenges to conquer. There is no doubt that the we are becoming more and more reliant on the use of technology, but whether the dependence is affecting our ability to think or perform is a hot topic for debate. Technology doesn't succeed mankind, it's dependent on us because it's a medium to make us more efficient and productive.
In the modern world, we commute in cars with GPS system, communicate by cell phones where message is routed through satellite, work on super computers that can process billions of instructions per second. So technology is augmenting our efficiency, so that we can deliver to our utmost potential and solve complex problems. The purpose of technology is to drive us ahead in our work and in our lives by providing us convenient solution of our problems. Internet is the major breakthrough the current century, it empowers us to dissipate ideas at a lightning speed. It makes us aware of social, political and economical problems faced by people in specific locality around the world & allows us reach a common consensus particularly in adverse situations like natural calamities or government oppression. These convergences of ideas lead mankind to study new problems and arrive at many alternative solutions. Thus technology doesn't cripples us of thinking about ourselves and our social, political, economical facets of our society, inspite it makes us aware of nproblems.
Developments in the bio-medical field has increased the average life span of humans, the disease which were incurable in past like smallpox, can be cured now. At present, cancer can also be cured if the symptoms are identified at an early stage. Physically and mentally challenged people can also be empowered to lead a normal life and take up new challenges that life brings to them. A good example is a pacemaker which is a device implanted in people having heart ailments.
Other way round, excess & redundant usage of technology can have deleterious affect on the mental ability of people, also affecting their social lives. A study on regular television users has concluded that watching television regularly can impair the vision along with the mental ability. Craze of violent video games can also lead to psychological issues. Addiction to social networking sites can damage the social life of individuals.
Technology is boon for mankind, we can use it solve our complex problems and accelerate our development process, while taking up new endeavors and creating new milestones. On the other hand, at some instance, it may become curse when we choose to become slaves of technology disregarding the fact that technology is just a medium.
