Response :
Scandals are quite prevalent today, scandals happened in every era of human history. They are characterized by immoral or illegal acts executed by a person, possessing a political, social or economical status and power. Such acts are not acceptable by public at large and may result into upheaval.
Scandals possess a negative connotation but the revelation of a scandal usually triggers a series of reforms in political, social or economical system of a nation. Such reforms have a positive effect on the nation and public. The main motives behind scandals are monetary gain and other selfish desires which lead to illicit acts, committed either consciously or unconsciously.
Sometimes, such illicit acts are not caught which is more harmful for a society and public in general.
Scandal brings up new problem in a society which requires a different methodology to fix it.
The person capable of being involved in illicit acts knows how the system can be exploited for personal gain. So, when such acts are revealed, the law and policy makers take steps to oust the possibility of such scandals happening again. In such scenarios scandals are useful and provide ample of learning opportunities and provides a chance to ameliorate the system.
When a scandal appears in a public arena, it calls for legal action against the people who are directly involved, it also affects the public indirectly, it maligns the reputation of the government or association which is the origin of scandal in the eyes of public. At that point of time there is a huge pressure on the reformer who has been given the job to stabilize the system and punish the culprit. This is the time when the leadership of the reformer is on check. During such a situation, it is the job of public to retain calm and believe in the reformer, while scrutinizing the steps taken by the reformer. In this way, scandals lead to reformation of the system.
On the individual level, persons who are directly involved in wrong doing, it's the time to learn from the mistake, committed consciously or unconsciously. Man commits many small and big mistakes in a life span, but the catch is to learn from every mistake.
Conclusively, although scandals are ordeals for an association, system or government but a proper corrective measures and reforms taken afterwards, are good for the system all together, as it oust the lurking evils within the system.
