More than one billion Indians: A gigantic problem or a sea of opportunities.

India’s population has crossed over one billion & it’s growing every moment. In some ways, it’s a gigantic problem because it creates an overload on the country’s limited resources. In some ways, it’s also a sea of opportunities because the massive labour force & human resource helps in economic progress.
India has the largest population under poverty line which is comparable to poor population in Africa. Majority of our population can’t afford basic living amenities like food, shelter, clothes, healthcare facilities etc. Further, the increase in population is adding up to the population under poverty line.  A large population also cripples country’s limited resources like living facilities, water resources, economic resources, non-renewable energy resources etc. It also leads to deforestation, pollution & further creates environmental misbalance resulting in irregular weather patterns which devastates the majority population depending upon agriculture.  Increasing population also overburden our ill equipped infrastructure which is still in a developing stage.
Looking at the brighter side, it’s a great sea of opportunities. Our economy is a growing by leaps & bounds & one the most important factor for the growth is the large working force. The best example is the population working under service sector.  Service sector is the largest source of revenue & it’s still booming. Majority if our population is comprising of youths which contributes  the most to the working force. It has been estimated that by 2020 the average population of our country will be 29 years , thus we will have a larger working population than China. We generate lakhs of engineers & architecture every year which is indeed boosting our industrial & structural development.
The crux of the debate is that indeed our overpopulation is burden on our economy but we are able to nullify some of it’s worse effects by utilizing the human resource. But there is still a large part of population which is worse affected by poverty & yet goes unnoticed. There is a shortage of skilled & literate working force.  We can uplift & equalize the standard of living of each individual by building wide spread infrastructures & education facilities to every corner of the country in order to meet the growing demands of the nation. Such strategies will help us to turn our drawbacks into our advantages.
