The Era of Electronic Cold War

Technology has overwhelmed us in every phase of our lives, be it biological or physical or astronomical, we are decoding the genes; looking deeper in the vastness of unexplored universe to find the trace of another living being. The field which has aggrandized & proliferated & augmented the development of other fields, is Information Technology. Now we are in a critical point in the progress of IT where information security is the necessity. Every trade using IT, needs security whether it's business or politics to thwart the breech of security through malwares, spywares, worms etc.
Recently, a new generation of sophisticated spywares/malwares has been unleashed. Stuxnet, targeted at Iranian Nuclear site is an apt example. The malware was designed for a specific purpose of decreasing the productivity of the nuclear plant. A group with a political ideology can use these tools to proliferate their message to the masses, like that in case of Pro-Wikileaks attacks named Operation Payback. It's the beginning of the Electronic Cold War. In future a well designed malware can take down an entire city, compromising its infrastructure. No one can deny this possibility.

If an electronic weapon is dropped carefully, it will be really hard to trace the culprit & that is the main difference between dropping a bomb and dropping an electronic weapon.  In near future, we will be seeing more such attacks between enemy states. Two states at military alert can attack the military infrastructure to cripple it’s combating capabilities.
It will be far more dangerous when terrorists lay their hands on these weapons. Terrorists can use them to fuel their political goals attacking the governments, power systems, infrastructures of developed nations resulting into worldwide chaos.  The common public will lose faith on their government & at that point of time, our government will realize the gruesome destruction capabilities of these weapons.
We can’t delay further to ponder over the issue & implement solutions beforehand we w'll forced in such situation. A possible solution can be enforcing an universal laws & policies & whoever breaks them will face charges independent of their location & government. We are going to witness an unprecedented development in IT & that is not far away.
